ZOOM Q&A May 22nd 2020

On Friday 22 May 2020, in a Zoom Q&A, we discussed how to get our offices ready for the future.

I wonder if you have considered this?  You will need to carry out risk assessments, which may identify a need to move desks and working space to accommodate social distancing, you may need to re-visit how your premises are kept clean and sterile and may need to provide PPE.  If you maintain homeworking for the longer term, a level of assessment may also be required here.

 We discussed how some employers are using the Furlough scheme to best advantage.  While on Furlough employees cannot do work, but they can do training.  Are there certain skills which were lacking?  How will the world of work have changed? What new skills will be required?

For example;

  • Technology; if there are to be dispersed teams, is everyone up to speed on video conferencing?  In the ‘new-business world’ your business may need to do more with Microsoft office applications?

  • Compliance: could your managers use some equal opportunities or diversity training?

  • Soft-skills training; practicing ‘soft-skills’, which can be applied to interact effectively and harmoniously with your people.

Using furlough time for training does not only make good commercial sense, but it may also serve to;

  • Keep people on side and on track,

  • Keep them integrated within the team and

  • Encourage them to maintain some thoughts about their career and business priorities,

all of which should make things easier and less daunting for them at point of return.

HOW CAN I HELP YOU?

I am working on some ideas about creating some communication/soft skills training programmes, do let me know if this triggers any thoughts or requirements for you.
