READY, GET SET, GO

New phrases abound; furlough, re-boarding and the ‘new-normal’.

Just a few short months ago, many employers were resistant to homeworking as a normal and habitual arrangement. Now, it is likely your employees who have enjoyed less time commuting will argue the case more vehemently. Indeed, they may provide you with some clear evidence of high levels of motivation and productivity, which will be difficult to ignore. This has been just one fundamental change to the way we do business; it is likely to be a legacy of Covid 19 and will affect how we communicate and work together in the future. We have come through lockdown and we are now emerging into a new era. Many people may still be furloughed or perhaps not yet at full capacity. It makes commercial sense to use this time to full advantage and invest in people to get them mentally and physically ready for the exciting challenges ahead.

FOR EMPLOYEES
After such a long and unplanned interregnum, people may have become unsettled, less confident and genuinely worried about their jobs. Some investment in training may give them a level of confidence. Living through these times of a pandemic may have completely changed attitudes, your people may return with a whole new outlook on life and your business may not be their first priority. Before they come out of Furlough or homeworking arrangements, it makes commercial sense to use the time productively; help them to re-energise, get them thinking about the ‘new’ workplace and the process of re-integration.

FOR MANAGERS
Managers too may have lost confidence and need some help to recognise and cope with the challenges and changes afoot. Within the new team settings, they may need to apply influencing skills to realign mutual expectations and promote positive performance within their teams.

FOR LEADERSHIP
When it comes to re-building business and its economy the most vital ingredient will inevitably be strong leadership.
