BUSINESS CULTURE & STRATEGY

I aim to fully Understand what your business does and most importantly – WHY it does it. We know that people work better with a clear sense of direction & purpose, I can work with you to create a purposeful culture with clear mission, values, goals.

Change is inevitable, so to ensure your business is always fit for purpose, an appropriate organisational structure must be maintained. If the context in which your business operates changes, you may need to diversify, this may require a restructure or an acquisition. An acquisition may involve the knotty process of Transfer of Undertakings (TUPE).

As the business grows and develops succession planning and sometimes redundancy becomes necessary. As you grapple with all of this, my experience can be brought to your boardroom table to provide independence, objectivity and fresh ideas.

RECRUITMENT & SELECTION

Many employers do not realise that they may be subject to Tribunal claims even before offering employment. Creative job design, person specifications and lawful recruitment & selection procedures can prevent this from happening. In the worst-case scenario these initiatives will ensure you can defend any such claim(s).

Hiring represents a high cost to your business. Despite all best endeavours it can be difficult to make the right choice. The process of recruitment doesn’t stop on the new hires first day, this is a critical time to test on-the-job. Use this time wisely to benchmark and measure skills, knowledge and attitudes.

271HR can provide a quality induction & probation process, which will document progress and provide evidence of any shortcomings. This engenders a true sense of fairness. If in doubt you may wish to dismiss, to make sure you may adapt or provide additional training and support before making any final decisions.

CONTRACTS & POLICY

All employees and workers have the right to receive a written statement of employment particulars. Until recently an employer had up to 2 months to supply full written terms to an employee, now this is a day one right. 271HR only supplies bespoke written terms, by getting to know your business and understanding the posts within your industry, a template or individual contracts may be supplied which are designed to protect the interests of all parties.

The statement of employment terms are contractual; I recommend that employers also have a robust set of non-contractual policies, these can be kept together in an accessible employment handbook. The fact that these policies are non-contractual means that as the business, the industry and/or external Regulations change the policies within can be modified to suit changing circumstances, usually without lengthy process of consultation. Such a handbook would contain a logical set of rules & procedures, such as attendance, wellbeing, family friendly rights, general working practices, dignity at work and more.

Sometime things go wrong; people may occasionally fail to follow the rules, become sick or demotivated, relationships falter and disputes arise. The first step is always to carry out a full and thorough investigation.

Maybe in post-pandemic days you may have to take the sad decision to diversify or downsize your business, but you are not sure where to start or how to ensure what you do next does not attract a claim from a disgruntled team or individual.

In a potential restructure or redundancy scenario, it is important to observe to the rights of those who may be at risk, but also to consider the ‘survivor syndrome’. To take your business forward, you will need those people left behind to respect you and the tough decisions you have had to make. You can only achieve this by being completely honest, transparent and above all - fair.

271HR will provide model letters to facilitate formal process; inviting the relevant people to meetings and hearings, explaining the outcome of those meetings and hearings and stating any rights of appeal. HR cannot make the decisions for you, but we can advise objectively as to what might constitute fair process and outcomes.

Experienced HR objectively reviews the components of the issue, gets to the heart of the matter, uses procedures appropriately to adhere to the rights of all individuals and finds a positive way forward. If the situation requires it, an un-biased and straightforward report will provide recommendations to bring about positive and long-lasting cultural change.

COMPLIANCE

In 2018 GDPR was introduced with much furore. 271HR can provide bespoke management guidelines and relevant GDPR privacy related policy and guidance.

Part of our solution to the matter of the safe keeping and lawful processing of employee data is our online tool. BreatheHR is an on-line portal, it is a centralised depository for all your employee’s information, thus reducing paper. It automates otherwise time-consuming tasks such as attendance and performance management. BreatheHR prompts you to renew legislative training e.g. health & safety, appointed persons etc…and it maintains records and certification such as immigration and driving documents, qualifications and industry memberships, thus keeping you up to date whilst reducing the time spent on these important but otherwise boring administrative tasks.
